During the residency, a children’s book illustrator presents workshops, art activities and portfolio reviews for adults, teens and children. The Illustrator in Residence Program honours the memory of illustrator Joanne Fitzgerald (1956-2011).
About Carey Sookocheff

Growing up on the Canadian prairies with a librarian mother and a father who was an avid storyteller, children’s author and illustrator Carey Sookoccheff has always loved to read, draw and create stories.
Carey has worked as an illustrator for over twenty years. In her early career, she created editorial illustrations for clients like The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Today, Carey creates picture books and teaches in the Bachelor of Illustration program at Sheridan College.
Carey’s books have been published by Groundwood Books, Kids Can Press, Owlkids Books, Tundra Books and Harry Holt Books for Young Readers.
Portfolio Review Meetings
Book a one-on-one 30-minute online portfolio review with Carey Sookocheff and receive feedback on your illustrations. Portfolio reviews are available on Thursday October 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

Class Visits
From October 3 – 27, Carey Sookocheff will lead art workshops for elementary classes (grades 2-6) online and in-person at the North York Central Library. She is also conducting online presentations for high school and college classes.
