Sherlock Holmes is one of the world's most recognizable fictional characters. The combination of pipe, deerstalker cap, Inverness cape and magnifying glass alone are enough to suggest the Great Detective. To this most representations also add a hawk-like profile and lean, ascetic build. Illustrators, advertisers, artisans and others have enjoyed playing with the many possible variations on this theme, while still maintaining the essentials.
