Talking Books Status Application
Do you have a print disability that prevents you from reading works in their original format? You can apply to change your library card to Talking Books Status by filling out this form.

Eligibility
Talking Books are available to customers with print disabilities. A print disability is a disability that prevents someone from reading conventional print. This definition is in section 32 of the Canadian Copyright Act:
- learning disability: an impairment relating to comprehension
- physical disability: the inability to hold or manipulate a book
- visual disability: severe or total impairment of sight or the inability to focus or move one’s eyes
A valid full-service Toronto Public Library card is required. To get a library card, visit Your Library Card for more information. At this time, Non-Resident cardholders are not eligible for Talking Book Status.
About Talking Books Status
Talking Books Status gives you access to the Talking Books Collection and exemption from:
- fines for holds not picked up
- being referred to a collection agency for long overdue items or charges.
Standard loan periods, borrowing limits, and suspension thresholds apply.
Please note you are responsible for:
- returning library materials
- receiving overdue notifications
- receiving billing notices for lost items
- renewing your card every year
- paying the replacement cost for lost or damaged materials
- informing the Library of any change to your disability status.
