What type of content is available?

HSTtalks offers two subject area collections:

  • The Biomedical & Life Sciences Collection contains over 4,000 specially commissioned, multi-media, online lectures by leading world experts from universities, research centres, medical schools and pharmaceutical/biotech companies.
  • The Business & Management Collection contains over 1,700 specially commissioned, multi-media, online lectures and case studies by experts from academia, industry and commerce. This collection also includes 22 peer-reviewed vocational journals that contain articles and case studies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to create an account with HSTalks?
Creating an account is optional, but you will need one of you want to save lectures to watch at another time. HSTalks is a third-party service that is governed by its own Privacy Policy.

Is there a limit to the number of lectures that can be accessed?
No, there is no limit to the number of lectures you can access.

Can the lectures be downloaded?
Only streaming content is available.

Is there an app for HSTalks?
An app is not available but the site is mobile-friendly.

Do the videos have accessibility features?
Yes. You can adjust font size, colours, contrast levels levels and navigate the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software. Full information about accessibility is available in the HSTalks Accessibility Statement.

Are there other resources included with the lectures?
Lectures include printable handouts in PDF format, links to websites and citation information. You can also access transcripts, make notes and download slides.

How often is new content added?
New material is added each month. Content is regularly viewed and updated.

Can the content be embedded?
All content can be embedded in PowerPoint, Word, Moodle, Blackboard and other online learning environments.

Do the lectures have public performance rights?
Public performance rights are available only for Toronto Public Library programs. Please consult the HSTalks Terms & Conditions.
