Newspapers at the Toronto Reference Library
The Toronto Reference Library (TRL) has over 120 current newspapers, in print and microfilm, from Canada and around the globe. Newspapers and newspapers on microfilm can be found in the following TRL departments.
The Languages & Literature Department on the 4th floor maintains the print newspaper and microfilm collections formerly kept on the lower level in the Toronto Star Newspaper Room. These include:
- All major Toronto papers
- Current issues of Toronto papers in languages other than English or French
- Current copies of many regional Ontario papers and selected major out of province papers
- Current issues of selected international newspapers from around the globe, published in English, French and many other languages A few major International papers such as the [London] Times and New York Times are retained on microfilm
- A rare collection of historical microfilm of early Toronto broadsheets such as the Colonial Advocate, and some local 20th century tabloid press publications such as Hush.
The Business, Science, and Technology Department on the 3rd floor offers business and finance print newspapers such as the Financial Times.
The Humanities and Social Sciences Department on the 2nd floor provides customers with access to local Toronto community newspapers on microfilm. This collection includes neighbourhood-based newspapers such as the Scarborough Mirror, the Etobicoke Guardian, the Annex Gleaner, and many more.
