After School Newcomer Hubs for Students in Grades 7-10
Toronto Public Library seeks volunteer tutors

TORONTO (Wednesday, September 8, 2010) – Toronto Public Library is seeking volunteers to tutor newcomer students in grades 7 to 10 this school year at three After School Newcomer Hubs. Students are provided free after school homework help in math, science, English, French, and other subjects as needed. Laptops are available for assignments and research. Gaming and other fun activities can also be enjoyed at the Hubs.

Volunteers can be adults, seniors, post-secondary, or high school students with an interest in helping newcomer youth. Interested volunteers are provided training and supervision.

The After School Newcomer Hubs are located at:

•    Albert Campbell Library, 496 Birchmount Road, (south of St. Clair Avenue East) (contact: Melanie Ribau at 416-396-8892)

•    Centennial Library, 578 Finch Avenue West, (west of Bathurst Street)(contact: Sarah Han at 416-395-5490)

•    Sanderson Library, 327 Bathurst Street, (at Dundas Street West)(contact: Sung-Min Han at 416-393-7653)
