The Bram & Bluma Appel Salon, Toronto Public Library’s signature event space for guests from the world of literature, the performing arts, politics and pop culture brings 24 highly anticipated events to the stage in fall 2015.

The fall Appel Salon season opens with #1 New York Times bestseller Kathy Reichs on August 24, ushering in a blockbuster line up of Canadian and international luminaries from September through December including Margaret Atwood, Jonathan Franzen, John Irving and Salman Rushdie.
In first appearances in the Salon, crime writers Janet Evanovich and Michael Connelly appear as part of the Library’s Star Talks series. Ian Rankin comes to the stage with his 20th Rebus novel in conversation with fellow crime writer Linwood Barclay. Sweden’s David Lagercrantz presents The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the highly anticipated follow up to Stieg Larsson’s Millenium Trilogy.
Portlandia’s Carrie Brownstein talks about self-invention, punk rock and her memoir Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl and Kate Beaton, creator of the comic strip Hark! A Vagrant presents its feminist follow up, Step Aside, Pops.
Broadcaster, activist and musician Wab Kinew talks about truth, reconciliation and the future of First Nations people in The Reason You Walk and founding Global news anchor Kevin Newman and son Alex Newman confront hard truths in Newman’s memoir All Out.
Award-winning Canadians Ian Brown (Sixty), Will Ferguson (Road Trip Rwanda), Lawrence Hill (The Illegal) and Patrick de Witt (Undermajordomo Minor) come to the stage with new books, along with international bestseller Shilpi Somaya Gowda and Pulitzer Prize winner Geraldine Brooks.
