Toronto Public Library and eight local settlement agencies celebrate the seventh anniversary of Library Settlement Partnerships (LSP) from October 13th to October 24th, coinciding with Canadian Citizenship Week (October 12th – 18th) and Ontario Public Library Week (October 18th-24th).
This year’s LSP Week theme is “Music from Around the World”, which celebrates newcomers’ contribution to the Canadian music scene and introduces Canadian music to newcomer communities. Celebrations will include a variety of events in many branch locations, including: multicultural musical performances, visits by Citizenship Judges, a Newcomer Art Exhibit, Open Houses, community information fairs and more.
Funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, LSP enables community agencies to work within Toronto Public Library to provide information, referrals, and group activities for newcomers. All participating branches serve communities with high immigrant populations. In 2014, Toronto Public Library’s LSP program served more than 27,600 Newcomers.
The LSP Program started in Toronto Public Library and then expanded across the province. Toronto Public Library is the largest participating library system with LSP programs and services offered at 14 branches. Participating Settlement agencies include:
- Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS)
- Centre for Immigrant and Community Services (CICS)
- CultureLink
- Kababayan Community Service Centre Inc.
- North York Community House (NYCH)
- Rexdale Women’s Centre
- Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office (TNO)
- YMCA Newcomer Information Centre (YMCA-NIC)
