Free spring concert and workshop provides access to
great local music
TORONTO (Monday, April 15, 2013) – Make Some Noise once again kicks into high
gear as local musicians Brian Borcherdt and Leon Taheny bring their project Dusted to the Parkdale Branch (1303 Queen
Street West) for a free concert right in the middle of the library stacks.
Also performing at the same concert is shoegaze art
rock band Rituals, with tracks from their brand new EP. The concert is free and open to all
ages.

To complement the free concert, the library will
feature A Make Some Noise workshop featuring metal journalist Laina Dawes and
special guests Garvia Bailey from CBC and local musician Saidah Baba Talibah
talking about their experiences blazing new ground as women in Toronto’s male-dominated
heavy metal scene. Dawes will share
readings from her recent book, What are
you Doing Here?, which chronicles the challenges and rewards faced by black
female metal fans.

The Make Some Noise - Take Some Noise program brings
the library's local music collection of over 1,200 CDs to life in the stacks of
library branches around the city, providing people of all ages an opportunity to access local independent
music as part of the library’s ongoing efforts to making culture more
accessible to everyone in the city.
Through their support of
Make Some Noise, partners Soundscapes music store and Exclaim! magazine
continue to provide invaluable contributions that help the library support and
expand access to local music in Toronto.
