Toronto (Wednesday, June 17, 2009) – For most of Toronto Public Library’s 99 branches, it will be business as usual in the event of a City labour disruption involving the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 79 and the Toronto Civic Employees’ Union 416 (CUPE). However, some branches that are located in shared facilities with City services will close for the duration of the City’s labour dispute.
Five branches will be closed and, with the exception of the Leading to Reading program and the Settlement and Education Partnership in Toronto (SEPT) program, all programs and services normally offered will be cancelled. The book drops at these branches will close. Fines will be waived for books due at the closed branch for the duration of the labour disruption.
