TORONTO (Friday, October 19, 2012) – Toronto Public Library and eight local Settlement agencies are celebrating the fourth Anniversary of the Library Settlement Partnerships (LSP) program in Toronto. Special events marking the occasion are being held at 14 library branches across Toronto from Friday, October 19th to Saturday, October 27th.
This year’s celebrations include a Newcomer Human Library; a Newcomer Art Exhibit, art displays and craft programs; presentations by Citizenship Judges and speakers from Passages to Canada; community information fairs; cultural entertainment; health workshops and more.
Funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, LSP enables community agencies to work within Toronto Public Library to provide information and referral, and group activities for Newcomers. All 16 participating branches serve communities with high immigrant populations. In 2011, Toronto Public Library’s LSP program served more than 25,000 newcomers.
The LSP program started at the Toronto Public Library and then expanded across Ontario. Toronto Public Library remains the largest participating library system with LSP programs & services offered at 16 branches. Participating Settlement agencies include:
- Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS)
- Centre for Information & Community Services (CICS) of Ontario
- CultureLink
- Kababayan Community Centre
- North York Community House (NYCH)
- Rexdale Women’s Centre
- Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office (TNO)
- YMCA Newcomer Information Centre (YMCA-NIC)
