Toronto Public Library Launches Black History Month – February 2009
TORONTO (Friday, January 23, 2009) - Toronto Public Library invites all Torontonians to come witness the power of African-Canadian voices at a launch event for Black History Month. Programs continue throughout the month of February in many Toronto Public Library branches.

Featuring poets Dwayne Morgan, Oni the Haitian Sensation,Boonaa Mohammed and Michelle Muir. Moderated by Chioma (editorand publisher of Amői Magazine)
Book signing and Q&A with the participating authors.

Toronto Public Library officially designates February as the month to highlight its collections, programs and services for our Black & Caribbean communities. For a second year, Black History Month at Toronto Public Library is proudly supported by RBC. In 2009, RBC increased their annual donation to enhance the Rita Cox Black & Caribbean Heritage Collection.
All Torontonians are invited to discover the richness of Toronto Public Library’s Rita Cox Black & Caribbean Heritage Collections, located in four convenient locations across the city.

The collections feature over 16,000 print and audiovisual materials for adults, children and teens about the Black and Caribbean historical and cultural experience – with special emphasis on Canadian material. These collections are recognized as one of the most comprehensive Black and Caribbean heritage collections in Canada, and are an invaluable resource for the Black and Caribbean community as well as students and researchers.
