Mayor David Miller to announce the 2010 Toronto Book Awards shortlist
TORONTO (Wednesday, September 15, 2010) - Mayor David Miller will join Jane Pyper, the City Librarian, to announce the shortlist for the 2010 Toronto Book Awards. The City of Toronto, in partnership with the Toronto Public Library, is inviting Torontonians to “get a new read on Toronto” with many opportunities for the community to embrace and explore this year’s shortlisted books.

The winner of the 2010 Toronto Book Awards will be announced on October 14 at the Toronto Reference Library's Bram & Bluma Appel Salon.
This year’s finalists will read from their books in the City of Toronto tent at The Word On The Street book and magazine fair taking place on Sunday, September 26, and will also be available at Toronto Public Library’s Yorkville Branch for a book signing and reading event on Tuesday, October 5.
This year marks the 36th year of the Toronto Book Awards. Established by Toronto City Council in 1974, the Toronto Book Awards honour authors of books of literary or artistic merit that are evocative of Toronto. The annual awards offer $15,000 in prize money. Each finalist will receive $1,000 and the winning author will receive the remaining prize money. The 2010 Toronto Book Awards Committee is made up of volunteer members Marsha Chesley, Alexander Greer, Angela Rebeiro, Kristine Thornley and Karen Tisch.
