The Jack Rabinovitch Reading Room Writers' Suite
Space to create at Toronto Reference Library
The Jack Rabinovitch Reading Room Writers' Suite offers a quiet place for writers to work with ready access to the Toronto Reference Library collections and to librarians for research support. Use of the Writers' Suite requires an application and depends on availability.
Location and hours
The Writers’ Suite is located on the 4th floor at Toronto Reference Library, in The Jack Rabinovitch Reading Room.
It is available whenever the library is open.
About the space
The Writers’ Suite can be used by writers, published or unpublished.
Writers must apply to use the space and need to have a valid TPL library card.
The Writers’ Suite consists of a newly furbished room with four individual work spaces.
Work spaces include power outlets, lockers, monitors, and access to wireless internet.
Application process
Admission to the Writers’ Suite is for a period of six months — January to June, or July to December. Please note: due to the Jack Rabinovitch Reading Room closure in early 2026, there will be one 2026 session, running April to December.
Applications are accepted throughout the year, and a new application is required for each six-month residency period.
Applicants will be notified within 1 week of application. If accepted, applicants will be provided with more information about the facility, guidelines for use, and invitations to Writers’ Room programs.
Please complete and save this application form (PDF) and email it to the TRL Languages & Literature Department at trllanglit@tpl.ca. Print applications are also available at the Languages & Literature department on the 4th floor of Toronto Reference Library.
Work spaces may be booked for up to 4 hours per day (5 hours on Sunday) through the Languages & Literature Information Desk (416-393-7085).
