Donate Books to the Library
Donated books are sold in most branches and at BOOKEnds bookstores, located at the Toronto Reference Library and North York Central Library. Proceeds go toward library programs and services. For BOOKEnds bookstore hours and information about book sales visit our Book Sales page.
Donations are only accepted during branch open hours.
What you need to know:
Branches only accept material that can be resold. Donated items must meet the following criteria:
- Material must be in very good condition and less than five years old.
- Only English and French books, CDs and DVDs will be accepted. For books, we prefer popular fiction and nonfiction in hardcover, mass market and trade paperbacks.
- Any other material, including magazines, computer books, textbooks, encyclopaedias and multilingual material will not be accepted by staff.
Books, CDs, magazines, computer books, textbooks, encyclopaedias, multilingual material and other materials can be donated to BOOKEnds. Find hours and information for BOOKEnds on our Book Sales page .
Check out the City of Toronto Waste Reduction Information for information about donating other materials to other non-profit organizations.
Please note that we do not add donated material to the collection and do not issue tax receipts for donations.
