Best for: Beginner learners with little or no AI experience
Course length: 8 hours over 4 weeks (2-hour session each week)
Format: In person or virtual

  • Make more informed decisions using AI tools

Google Prompting Essentials

Best for: Learners with some AI experience (AI Essentials is recommended beforehand, but not required)
Course length: 10 hours over 4 weeks (2.5-hour session each week)
Format: In person or virtual

Unlock AI’s potential with effective prompts

  • Apply a structured framework to write effective prompts
  • Evaluate and refine AI outputs to improve results
  • Use AI to draft content and support brainstorming
  • Create tables, timelines and other outputs
  • Use AI to analyze data and build presentations responsibly
  • Apply advanced techniques like prompt chaining and prompt reuse

Register for Google Prompting Essentials

Course format

Plan to complete approximately two hours of coursework per week between sessions. During each session, you’ll discuss course content with peers, work through material and explore related library resources. Courses include short videos and articles, assignments and a short quiz at the end of each module. Upon completion, you’ll receive a certificate. Course access expires at the end of the program.

Eligibility & requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • A valid library card (for online learning circles)
  • Basic computer and Internet skills
  • Ability to attend all four sessions and complete the full course
  • A Coursera account (requires some personal information—see Coursera’s Privacy Notice and Terms of Use for more information)

Online Learning Circles: Computer or laptop, reliable internet connection and an up-to-date web browser (Google Chrome recommended).

In-person Learning Circles: Bring your own laptop if possible; devices are available at the library if needed.
