New Board Member
Councillor Jane Pitfield was welcomed to the Toronto Public Library Board. Her appointment was made following the resignation of Councillor Maria Augimeri.
Public Presentation
A deputation was presented by Nyambura Belcourt, President, UPAWA concerning the leasing of space at 40 Orchard View Boulevard.
1998 Operating Budget Monitoring Report
The Board received for information the 1998 Operating Budget Monitoring Report for the period ending November 30, 1998. This report outlines the Board's financial position for the year-to-date.
1999-2003 Capital Budget (Verbal)
The Board received for information the verbal 1999-2003 Capital Budget Report. The Board members were updated on the St. Jamestown, Eatonville and Leaside projects.
Service Delivery Model Project
Susan Wright, from the Randolph Group, made a presentation to the Board on the Service Delivery Model Project. The project involves four inter-related project components:
- development of a service delivery plan for the Research and Reference Libraries
- development of a specific service delivery plan for the Urban Affairs Library currently housed at Metro Hall
- validation of branch planning methodologies design of a stakeholder consultation process.
New Grant from Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC)
The Board received the New Grant from Human Resources Development Canada Report for information. The Library will receive a total of $757,500 from HRDC.
These funds will be used as follows:
- Internet Workstations in branches: $352,500
- Career & Employment Gateway for the Virtual Reference Library: $355,000
- Employment & Career Collections: $50,000
The first installment of approximately $200,000 will be received in December 1998, and the balance will be received before March 31, 1999.
1999 Operating Plan and Budget
The Board approved the 1999 Operating Plan and Budget for submission to the City at a net City request of $98,477,200.
