Ameritech Library Resources (Canada) Vendor of Choice for ILS
The Board approved a recommendation naming Ameritech Library Services Inc. (Dynix) as the vendor of choice to provide an Integrated Library System (ILS) for the new Toronto Public Library. The recommendation is contingent on the library receiving funding and proceeding with the project in 1998.

CUPE 1582 Presents to Board
A presentation was made to the Board by Steven Burdick, President of CUPE Local 1582. Mr. Burdick addressed his concerns about the amalgamation of collection development and reference services and the proposed relocation of staff. He was invited to submit names of union members who would like to give deputations at future Board meetings.

Capital, Operating and Transition Budgets Clarified
An update of the 1998 - 2002 Capital and 1998 Operating Budget process, with minor changes was presented to the Board. The Municipal Handbook definition of a Capital Expenditure is any significant expenditure incurred to acquire land, buildings, machinery and equipment and does not include repairs or maintenance. This definition resulted in minor changes to the Library's budget. Items which had originally been placed in the Capital Budget, such as new and replacement vehicles, were transferred to the Operating Budget.

Metro Reference Foundation Presentation
Richard Boxer, Chair of the Metro Toronto Reference Library Foundation, presented background information and the successes of the Foundation to the Board. At next month's Board meeting Mr. Boxer has been asked to address how the Foundation could expand its mandate to cover all segments of the new Toronto Public Library. A proposal on the Foundation's future relationship to the Toronto Public Library Board will be submitted by Mr. Boxer at that time.
