Eatonville Library
The Board endorsed the Eatonville Project for inclusion in the 1999 Capital Budget and requested that the City's Budget Committee approve $150,000 in 1998 to fund the design cost of the project.
1999 Capital Budget
The 1999 Capital Budget and Forecast were approved by the Board for the purpose of submitting it to the City for consideration by the Budget Committee. The proposed Capital Budget for 1999 is $4,410,000.
Service Harmonization Report Approved
The Board approved the service harmonization initiatives and framework. Rationalization of Sunday hours, subject to budget consideration and further reporting on the vaiours options, and the Library Materials Budget Allocation Formula will be implemented in 1999.
The library materials budget allocation formula will be applied in 1999 to reduce the disparity in per capita expenditure across the City. Approval was given by the Board to cap the variation in any individual branch's materials budget by plus or minus 5% over the previous year's budget for the first year.
Guildwood Neighbourhood Branch Lease Renewed
The signing of the lease agreement for Guildwood Neighbourhood Library for a term of five years (December 1, 1998 to November 30, 2003) was approved.
Official Marks Approved
The Board authorized staff to register official trademarks for three Toronto Public Library web research tools. They are Bob's Your Uncle, eh! (a genealogical web search program), Expanding Universe and Science Net/Reseau Sciences.
Letter of Understanding between the Toronto Public Library and the Library Foundation
A letter of understanding from the Library Foundation was received for information by the Library Board to clarify the relationship, roles and responsibilities of the two organizations. As the relationship evolves, changes may be made to the document.
CUPE 416 Presentation
A deputation was presented by Thea Adams, CUPE Local 416, concerning Automatic Release Plans (ARP). The Board was asked to reconsider its decision to use the ARP method for purchasing library materials.
