Shared Community Content FAQs

  • General Questions

New functionality on the website now lets you share comments, suggestions, ratings and lists with other library customers, if you choose. By default, My Account features that are shareable are set to private except for the Activity Feed, which is set to public by default. However, shared community content created by you is only visible if you have changed the default privacy settings in My Account to public. So, for example, when your shelves are set to private, your ratings, comments and other content that you have added to a title are not visible to other library users, including content in your activity feed.

Like many social sharing platforms, the shared community content environment on TPL's website has built-in reporting tools that allow customers to flag content they believe may violate the Terms of Use. Customers also have the option to hide offensive and spoiler content by default in their My Account settings and also have the ability to “ignore” individual user accounts. The overall community management is done by Bibliocommons, the technology vendor that hosts TPL's website and provides this service to library customers across North America, including TPL. Additional information about Shared Community Content can be found in the recently added FAQ.
