About the project
Plans have been launched to reconstruct the Dawes Road branch, part of the neighbourhood’s new Dawes Road Library and Community Hub project. The entire branch will be reconstructed at its current location and expanded at its current location. All public spaces will be revitalized to ensure that they meet the needs of our vibrant community.

The Dawes Road Library and Community Hub project was approved at the TPL Board meeting on May 26, 2025. The last day of service was on Saturday June 21, 2025. The closure for renovation and expansion is expected to take approximately 3 1/2 years.
Community consultations
In 2021, we hosted three virtual community meetings in which community members learned more about this project. View the replays of the public meetings on March 23, May 31, and December 13, 2021.
In addition to the new building, Dawes Road will be renamed. We are currently engaged in the work of identifying an Indigenous name through a process that is Indigenous-led, respectful, community-informed, and reflective of Indigenous knowledge and stewardship of these lands. Guided by the Toronto Public Library Indigenous Advisory Council, and working with Smoke Architecture and Oshkaabewis Engineering and Consultation, we are setting up consultations in November 2026, to engage with Indigenous community members, with a focus on youth, adults, and service providers. If you identify as one of these members, we want to hear from you. Register or drop in to join one of four targeted consultation sessions:
- Indigenous Service Providers - November 16, 2-3:30 pm at Main St branch
- Indigenous Community members (all ages) - November 18, 7-8 pm Online
- Indigenous Youth - November 24, 6:30-8 pm at Danforth/Coxwell branch
- Indigenous Adults & Elders - November 25, 6:30-8 pm at Danforth/Coxwell branch
