Explore the creative potential and ethics of artificial intelligence in music production with composer, producer and immersive experience designer Joel S. Silver. Learn about the history, copyright and ethics of generative music—and get hands-on with current AI tools, including Suno AI.

Joel S. Silver is a Toronto-based composer and producer whose work spans television, film, commercials and live performance, with credits including Netflix, National Geographic, Discovery and CBC. He explores the intersection of technology and creativity through AI-driven music production and custom software development.

Apply to be an AI Innovator in Residence
We’re hiring two paid AI Innovators in Residence for 12-week, in-person residencies from October 1 to December 19, 2026 (approximately 18 hours per week, flexible schedule).
These residencies support public learning and hands-on experimentation with artificial intelligence through programs, workshops, consultations and a community hackathon focused on real-world challenges.
If you’re working in AI literacy, public education, or applied AI development—and are interested in sharing your knowledge with the community—you may be a strong fit.

Residency streams
AI Literacy and Public Life
This stream focuses on how AI works, how it is used and how it shapes society. The residency will take place in person at Richview branch.
We’re seeking applicants with academic, professional and teaching experience in AI literacy, with a focus on public policy and governance.
Applied AI Development
This stream focuses on designing, prototyping and building AI-powered tools responsibly. The residency will take place in person at North York Central Library.
We’re looking for applicants with experience in applied AI development, including building and deploying AI systems or tools.
