What to consider when using GenAI

GenAI tools are constantly changing. Remember to keep these best practices in mind when using GenAI:

  • Be cautious about providing any personal, confidential or sensitive information
GenAI tools are trained on data, which is used to create the content provided to users. Information provided to these tools by users may be kept and used to further train the tool. Review each GenAI tool’s privacy policy and terms of use.
  • Verify AI-generated content with other sources
Content provided by AI may not always be accurate. Double check the content with other sources - for accuracy, fairness, relevance and potential bias. Verifying information helps reduce the potential spread of misinformation or bias that can negatively impact people and communities.
  • Be aware of environmental impacts
GenAI tools use significant energy. Be mindful of when and how you use GenAI and consider whether non GenAI tools can help you complete your tasks.
  • Respect intellectual property rights
Confirm that the content does not replicate or closely resemble copyright-protected materials. GenAI may use data without regard for copyright or licensing, producing content that is identical or substantially similar.
